Physiologist honoured

PA Palmerston North An animal physiologist in the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research at Palmerson North, Dr C. S. W. Reid, has been awarded the Hector Medal by the Royal Society of New Zealand for his outstanding work in the field of animal sciences. Dr Reid is leader of the digestive physiology group of applied biochemistry division at Palmerston North. He is also an honorary lecturer at Massey University. His work on bloat research in the 1950 s established the causes of bloat and led to his development of bloat control. This year’s award was made to Dr Reid mainly for his contributions to the study of physiology and nutritional aspects of the digestion and the digestive tract of ruminants, and digestive disturbances such as bloat and grass staggers.
