Whakatu to resume

PA Hastings Killing will resume at the Whakatu freezing works, near Hastings, today after a week-long lay-off caused by a dispute between meat inspectors and mutton butchers.

The parties agreed yesterday to take their dispute to Mr A. E. Valentine, chairman of the Freezing Industries Disputes Committee. They have agreed to accept his ruling and return to work this morning after freezing workers hold a shed meeting. The dispute arose when meat inspectors refused to work alongside a freezing worker who was convicted of assaulting an inspector on the job six weeks ago.
