New Lincoln buildings
Tenders have been let and work has started on two new residential blocks and a recreation centre at Lincoln College. A meeting of the college council was told yesterday that the residential blocks should be finished by the end of December. The twostorey blocks will each house 24 studj’-bedrooms, each group of six having its own bathroom and toilet facilities and small common room with tea-making facilities.
As financial support could not be obtained from the Government for replacement of some residential accommodation at the college, the council had decided to fund the two new blocks from its own resources.
It was hoped to have a new indoor sports hall, and some shower and changing facilities in the recreation centre, available from the beginning of next year, the council was told. Remaining facilities including a small training room would be completed as soon as possible. The total cost of the recreation centre will be about $500,000, much of it coming from the Lincoln College Students’ Association.
