Aust.- Nelson roll-on service?
P A Nelson An inward roll-on shipping service between Australia and Nelson will probably start soon on a trial basis, according to the Union Steam Ship Company, Ltd. Mr A. K. Geilatly, the manager of ' AnchorDorman. Ltd, the company’s Nelson subsidiary, said that the feasibility of a return service to the port had been considered for some time, and a final decision would be made soon. “If it is agreed, it means that cargo from Australia will be accepted on the next inward voyage of the Marama,” he said.
The cargo would first be discharged at Wellingron, and the ship would then make a South Island run to Lyttelton and Dunedin and back to Wellington, where she would load outward cargo for Sydney, and then reload the' Australian cargo for Nelson, her last port of call before the Tasman crossing. The company already runs an inward service to Wellington and Lvttelton from Australia.
The genera! manager of the Nelson Harbour Board (Mr D. Calwell) said that the extension of the service would be welcomed. “Our arrangements are such that we can accept inward cargo.” he said.
