Photography prizes
PA Auckland New Zealand Herald” photographers won the major prizes in the Qantas Photographer of the Year award presented in Auckland. Doug Cole, aged 25, was awarded the Qantas premier award with a prize of a return trip to London. 1 Another -Herald” photographer. Francis Kay, of Hamilton, and formerly of “The Press,” was runner-up 1 Mr Kay, aged 21, had al double success in the competition. He was awarded the Max Smith Memorial Trophy and a return trip to Australia as best cadet photographer. A highly commended prize; of camera gear was awarded! to Rav Pigney, of New Zea-1 land Newspapers, in Welling-! ton. The contest this year drew a record 52 entries.'The stan-i dard of photography was j “very high,” according to the I panel of four judges. Photographers from all I over New Zealand submitted! portfolios of four pictures to: be judged.
