Boy’s body found
The body of a boy was recovered from the Avon River, near the Estuary, on Tuesday only a few metres from the spot where he disappeared after a canoeing accident on Sunday. He was David Roy Bea ven, aged eight, of 17 Merrington Crescent, Aranui, who is believed to have drowned after his canoe capsized in about 3m of water. Two other boys who were in the canoe, Richard Bailey, [aged 14, and Kevin Davey, [aged 16, managed to reach [the bank after trying to resjcue David Beaven. i The search continued for ■ two days without success. [On Tuesday the police team I used grappling hooks and idrag nets. ■ The body was found about 112.45 p.m. It was recovered [from the bottom of the river near Tovey Street, South New Brighton, only a few meters from where the canoe capsized.
