Wreck sold

Nelson reporter The Japanese squid boat Maru Daimaru No. 2, wrecked at the mouth of the Heaphy River on January 4 this year, has been bought by two men from the Nelson district. Mr Peter Talley, a principal of the Motueka firm of Talley’s Fisheries, has confirmed that he and a Richmond crayfisherman, Mr Jack Emms, had bought the vessel. Mr Talley was loath to discuss the purchase without Mr Emms being present. Mr Emms, he

said, was with a salvage crew lifting out portable machinery and equipment on board the vessel. Shortly after he had heard the ship had gone aground on the West Coast he had flown over it and within three days had put in a written offer for the vessel with the underwriters. He and Mr Emms had received word on Easter Thursday that their prjce had been accepted, said Mr Talley. He would not disclose the price paid for the vessel.
