Memorial to children
A memorial to the four children who lost their lives at Blandswood, Peel Forest, in a flash flood on the night of January 28, 1975, has been placed in position through efforts by Blandswood residents.
A plaque is affixed to a boulder, and records the deaths of Jeffrey, Julia, and Leighton Tasker, aged six, four, and three, and their cousin, Gary Woolley, aged 12, who were sweot away and drowned when the Kowhai stream became a raging tori rent.
