Part of Colombo Street near Peterborough Street became a lake last evening after a water main burst beneath the surface of the road. The water covered the road, and Ministry of Transport officers were called in to conduct traffic.
A fire hydrant was used to relieve the pressure while Christchurch City Council workmen dug down to the broken main and repaired it. No consumers were affected by the break, the cause of which was not known last evening.
