Stablemates in great form at Addington trials
By
G. K. YULE
The stablemates. Warragamba and Nimble Yankee, showed their fitness for engagements at the week-end when they finished first and second respectively in the main event at the Addington trials yesterday
Warragamba received the run of the race behind Kiwi ■ I Kid and burst through early > m the run home. He was al-" ways in control and won 11 easily by two lengths and a l half from Nimble Yankee. Warragamba is in the:: Armv Handicap at Addington on Monday and it will be I surprising if he fails to make; a bold showing. ' i Nimble Yankee, which i. looked to have plenty in re-,; serve at the line, has done;, well since he finished in the Easter Cup. He will be one of the top prospects ini, the G. J. Barton Memorial , Handicap at Forbury Park on . Saturday. Scottish Chief, which is to ■ race at Methven. came onj quiet well for third, ahead of t Saucy Jack and Kancho. which made up ground.
Eclipse, which has not long been back in strong work with Denis Nyhan, went satisfactorily when he finished sixth, ahead of Ambridge and Kiwi Kid. The winner took 3 min 29.4 sec for the 2600 m, the last 800 m in 60.8 sec, and the final 400 m in 28.8 sec. Joie de Vivre showed that he was coming to hand well in preparation for makink a fresh start in the next week or two when he made most of the pace and lasted ' for a narrow win over Bal--1 mark in a race for C 3 and C 4 pacers. Joie de Vivre showed good form in the spring and he might not be long returning to that. He paced the 2600 m in a ftisurely 3 min 35.6 sec, the last 800 m in Imin 1 sec, and
the final 400 min 29.8 sec. i Quick Hanover, now with; Jack Carmichael, got awaysafely and ran on solidly for third, ahead of Babrow, which was not pushed. Mandarin was a fair fifth, ahead of Paretai Lass and Tempest Frost. FAVORITE’S RUN Hanover Reine main- : tained her position as one of the favourites for the New Zealand Oaks on Monday when she gained a nose victory over Winem in the C2 , pace. She received a beauti- ; ful run and came rather late to take a narrow decision. The run should help bring her to her peak for her big test. At her last start she ran out an easy winner in ; the Three-year-old championship at Addington Raceway on Easter Saturday. Hanover Reine took 3 min 29.4 sec for the 2600 m, the i last 400 m in 30.8 sec. Winem’s run was a sound’ trial for the April Handicap; on Monday. He will be driven iin that event by Ross Wheeler. Smart Doll, another Oaks candidate, made ground solidly for third, just ahead of Battle Lord and Heeni. Remlap showed that he will be a top chance in the Air Force Handicap on Monday when he led throughout the main race for trotters. He was always in command and won easily by two lengths from Flameur, which trotted roughly early. He took 3 min 37.2 sec for the 2600 m, the last 400 m in 30 sec. Mutineer, which is to race at Forbury Park, was funder a hold throughout and I finished a neck from ; Flameur. He should make a i bold run on Saturday. Brenda Bell trotted a useiful race for fourth, ahead of I Picotee. Marsha Donna broke : several times and finished seventh. NEAR BEST i Copper Hanover, which requires a scratching to reenter the field for the New Zealand Oaks, showed that . she was near her i best when she beat the ,C 1 pacers. She was handily placed throughout and maintained a good run in the straight to hold off Frisco Frost, a slow beginner. by a nose. Connoisseur, a candidate for Addington on Monday, did well for third, ahead of Debra Del, which shaped pleasingly. She held fourth without being pushed and after she had set much of the pace. The winner took 3 min 29.8 sec for the 2600 m, the last 800 m in 1 min 2.6 sec. Polight, Tara Drive, Blue Snow. Mike’s Charge, Noble
!Pride, and Glad Arm were; 1 others to perform creditably. Remlap will not start at Forbury Park, while Vitellia will by-pass the Methven meeting and start twice at Dunedin.
