Seaview Mall a year behind
The Seaview Mall in New Brighton’s business district could be completed by Christmas, a year behind its original schedule. ' Because of inflation, it will [also cost more than first planned. Provisional 1977 costs for all work in the plan total $325,000, up from a $250,000 loan based on original estimates. in final construction, a random mix of 78,300 red and chocolate paving tiles will be laid over the street. Although mall planning Started in 1971, and a limited loan was raised at the end of 1975, the Government’s local body loan freeze stopped rapid progress on the project. Initial money was used to buy land for off-street parking. The laying of underground services for the mall should begin this month, and construction of the mall will start in September.
