U.S. visitors to Chch

A party of 12 United States Congressmen, led by Senator J. Sparkman, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, will arrive in Christchurch from Tahiti this afternoon. The congressmen and their wives will be accompanied by a supporting party of 17. On arrival at Christchurch Airport, aboard a United States Air Force Special Missions Boeing 707, the group will be met by the Minister of Housing (Mr Holland) and the United States Ambassador to New Zealand (Mr A. I. Selden, jun.). They will attend a dinner party hosted by Mr Selden at the United States Navy base at the airport this evening. Senator Sparkman will have discussions at the base tomorrow morning with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs (Mr Talboys). The congressional party will fly to Mount Cook aboard a Ministry of Transport Friendship later in the morning. The visitors will leave Christchurch for Canberra at 7 a.m. on Monday.
