Many people help show
Behind all the glamour of the show day there is much hard work both by exhibitors and show officials. In the case of the showofficials several working bees are held to prepare for the show and to clean up after. For the Hawarden Show tomorrow the preparation began by adding 75 pens to the permanent sheep accommodation already provided. This involved three working bees of about five persons to install the treated timber pens on the association’s land adjoining the Hawarden Memorial Park, where the rest of the show activities are held. Two main working bees are held involving about 60 persons each time — one last Tuesday and the other today. This involved the general ground preparation, putting up the competitions rings, the
temporary sheep yards, the tie-ups for the cattle and the horses, and erecting the marquee for the booth, which is run by association members on the show day. Another large working bee is needed on the Monday after the shows to tidy up. A major project tackled by the association about four years ago was the building of a large shed, with concrete block walls and corrugated fibreglass panels, as a store for equipment and as a display shed on show day. The many users of the park facilties have contributed to extensions fcr the pavilion, which serves as a headquarters for the association’s president and secretary on show day. The pavilion has been extended by erecting a varanda along the front, installing a kitchen, and adding shower rooms.
