Prisoners on arson, assault charges
PA New Plymouth Three . prisoners were charged with arson and two! with assault after a fire at the New Plymouth Prison yesterday. The prisoners will appear in the Magistrate’s Court at New Plymouth on Monday, according to the New Plymouth police. The superintendent of the prison (Mr W. Elliot) said there had been 15 inmates and two warders in the prison tailor shop at the time of the disturbance. Only five of the inmates were connected with the lighting of the fire. Mr Elliot said the inmates filed out when the a' m was raised after the fire was noticed.
The fire, which damaged bolts of material, started at 8.35 a.m. It caused little structural damage.
