State pay rise news awaited

PA Wellington State servants might get news of their long-awaited pay increase sometime todav.

After meeting the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) and the Minister of State Services (Mr Gordon) yesterday morning, the Combined State Service Organisations at first hoped to return to the Government in the afternoon. But Government sources said last evening that there would be no immediate announcement — instead,

the C.S.S.O. was expected to consider the offer overnight and return to see Mr Gordon this morning. After yesterday morning’s meeting, the president of the C.S.S.O. (Mr Ivan Reddish) said the Government’s latest offer was less than its original package, but some of the conditions had been removed.

If the new proposal is accepted, it will give State servants something less than 4 per cent, but allow another claim to be lodged in October.
