Wool bales sent as deck cargo

What is believed to be the largest consignment of wool to be exported as deck cargo will leave Lyttelton today aboard the N.Z. Aorangi. About 5500 bales have been lashed to the Aorangi’s decks. Most of it has been loaded at Lyttelton, but a small quantity was loaded at Bluff.

It proved to be a mammoth task of sheeting and lashing but, according to the ship’s master (Captain S. Ponsford), there is no question of the wool upsetting the ship’s stability. The vessel’s holds were crammed full of dairy produce and lamb, which would keep it on an even keel, he said.
