Noon Forecast
Situation: A ridge extending onto the north of the North Island from the east is weakening. A cold front moving northeast over the South Island is also expected to weaken as it moves onto the south of the North Island during the day. A disturbed westerly airstream flows south of the Tasman Sea and New Zealand. Forecasts: Marlborough, Nelson: Moderate variable winds; scattered showers but mainly fair and mild; cooler on the Kaikoura coast.
Buller, Westland: Moderate westerly winds with areas of rain, easing to scattered showers during the day; cool. Canterbury: Moderate southerly winds with a few showers this morning; fair in the afternoon but further showers late in the day. Outlook: Fair weather in Canterbury, Marlborough and Nelson; some showers in the Sounds; unsettled with showers in Buller and Westland.
