Trueman tour

PA New Plymouth Taranaki and Hawke's Bay are going it alone in staging matches against Fred Trueman’s world invitation cricket side. The Auckland Cricket Association said its match against the team, scheduled for Eden Park on Sunday, has been called, off. The Taranaki Cricket Association's match organiser, Mr Wayne Burtt, confirmed that the Taranaki and Hawke's Bay matches will go ahead on Saturady and Monday respectively. The Auckland association called off its match because Trueman was unable to confirm sufficient big name players. Speaking to the Auckland association’s secretary, Mr Quinton Baddeley, ' from Melbourne he confirmed only nine players I — himself, Brian Close, BarryNight, Peter Lever, Weter Parfitt, David Lloyd, Dlvid Brown, John Hampshire ;and Godfrey Evans. He said he had tried to confirm Dennis Lillee and Gary Gilmour, as well as the *-eat West Indies pair, Sir Garfield Sobers and Seymour Nurse, but he had no word from them.
