Balgove impressive
(Special correspondent) Invercargill Balgov* snowed he was coming to hand well for the Easter Cup meeting at Addington when he won the main heat from 60m at the Forbury Park trials yesterday. BUI and Jeff Roberts, the Lawrence owners of Balgove, have decided against taking the five-year-old to Brisbane for the Inter-Dominions next month.
“Lack of experience and the heat In Brisbane decided us against the trip," said BIU Roberts, the trainer. “He has only had 22 starts and would be confined to Albion Park because of the quarantine regulations, which is entirely different to what he Is used to.”
Balgove ran the 2600 m in 3mln 25.35ec, the last 800 In 60.8 sec. He quickly made up his handicap, joined the pacemaker. Renown Scott, at the 1100 m, and went clear at the 700. He then drew right away from the others, holding a 10-length advantage at the finish. Maid Melody went weU for a CO pacer to finish second, a length and a half clear of Renown Scott. Tuapeka Dream was almost In line next. It was her first serious run since she injured a hind leg In January. SaUsbury again made a good Impression when he won the heat for two-year-olds. The half-brother by Lumber Dream to Regal Light and Sydney James, led throughout and scored easily by two lengths.
