Safety week-end at Redcliffs School
“Operation Alert and Alive” will begin in Christchurch this week-end.
The safety programme, organised jointly by the Port Hills Kiwanis Club and the Accident Compensation Commission, encourages all members of the family to be active but not accident prone. The correct use of flares, smoke signals and fire extinguishers will be demonstrated during the promotion. The public will also have the chance to see a firearms safety display, a home safety display and examples of electrical, and mountain and tramping safety.
The Christchurch Fire Service will show their new mobile unit and a disaster relief unit will also be on
display. Films and instructions on
the new road rules will also be offered.
“Various voluntary, private and Government organisations are involved in what will be an exciting couple of days,” says the chief organiser of "Operation Alert and Alive” (Mr G. S. Sharp). “The aim is to show that active participation in many pursuits can take place without fear of accident. That is if sensible, but not always obvious, precautions are taken.
“All members of the public are most welcome, regardless of age or interests. There’ll be something for everyone." "Operation Alert and Alive” activities will be held at Redcliffs School during the week-end. The starting and finishing times are: Saturday 1.00-4.30 p.m., and Sunday noon-5 pm.
