Royal visit to Lincoln College
Sir, —The Lincoln College Students’ Association wishes to protest at the negative reporting that occured in the issue of “The Press” on March 5, concerning the Royal visit to Lincoln College. As the visit was a formal occasion and, for the second half, wa a combined civic function our students were well aware that pranks would not be appreciated. Although provision was made for lectures to be cancelled after 10 a.m., most of the students preferred to carry on classes as normal and certainly did not have the time to assemble an hour before the Queen war to have arrived in order to take the best vantage points from the brownies. We hooe that future “Press” reports concerning Lincoln students will be more positive and give
the students seme credit for being able to decide for themselves what type of behaviour is suitable for an occasion.—Yours, etc., BERT EASTOE. For the executive of the Lincoln College Students’ Association. March 15, 1977.
[We do not question the sense of propriety shown by the students at Lincoln College on this occasion; our report made clear that, while some people may have expected otherwise, no student pranks were evident. If those who expected a different response were disappointed, we simply recorded that the occasion was free of any activity that many—including the Students’ Association executive — would have considered inaporopriate.— Editor.]
