200 for Air Force run

More than 200 runners are expected to take part in the R.N.Z.A.F.’s 7.2 mile “Spitfire to Harvard” road run this afternoon.

A spokesman for the organisers said the run will become an annual event and invitations had been sent to the army, navy’, police. Operation Deep Freeze and airlines and associated services.

The run is part of a fitness programme for the City to Surf community jog on March 19 and the Ashburton Athletic Club’s big annual Mt Hutt marathon on April 11. As added preparation for these events last Wednesday a big group of Air Force men ran an 18 mile hill circuit from the sign of the Kiwi along the Summit Road to Gebbies Pass and on to Tai Tapu. Today’s run starts at 3 p.m. from the Brevet Club’s Spitfire memorial and finishes at the Harvard at the gates of Wigram Air Base.
