New handyman show
Handymen and do-it-yourselfers will be able to pick up a few expert tips and hints when TVl’s Dunedin’s handicraft programme “Of Course You Can Do It” returns on Saturday,
Following much the same format as last year, the programme will be aimed at helping viewers who are interested in repairing, renovating, or even building their own homes. It will also present some ideas on how to fill leisure time with interesting hobbies and creative projects.
The producer, Wayne Cameron, says that he will closely follow the past format. “However, we will place more emphasis on arts and crafts and small projects.” One change viewers will notice is the replacement of the former frontman. Don Taylor, with a new host, Barrie Garden. Barrie is a 38-year-old Dunedin civil engineer. Although most of his career has been spent working on the larger projects of a consultant engineering firm he has spent the last two years developing his interest in house repair and renovation work.
He has turned his hand to landscaping, renovating a Presbyterian church manse, and working on ideas for inventions. Barrie hopes to be able to widen the scope of the programme this year in order to bring in the interests of a larger group of people* Rather than sticking simply to the handyman type items he will introduce many finer crafts and offer the viewers an opportunity to develop simple but useful skills and the chance to try some new hobbies.
