(NZPA Ottawa A Russian scientist attached to the Canadian National Research Council has been arrested for subversive activities and will be deported. the Ottawa “Journal” has reported. The newspaper said that (Lev Grigoreyvich Khvostantisev, aged 39, was arrested on Wednesday night. He had been in Canada for 10 months under an exchange

arrangement with the council. The "Journal" said it learned from Royal Canadian Mounted Police sources that Khvostantsev had cultivated a friendship with a council scientist, who was not named, and offered him money for classified documents. It said that money was paid to the council scientist for some unclassified documents.
