Increase in university roll

I The roll at the Univer- ’ sity of Canterbury this year is expected to be about I 7400, 3 per cent higher I than last year. 1 Most enrolments had ■ been completed by 5 p.m. I last evening, recording to the university’s records officer, Mr S. McColl. Engineering and fine-arts students had yet to enrol, and there would be several late enrolments, but the final number was expected to be close to 7400, he said. However, the greatest increase has been in the law and commerce faculties: 10 per cent in law. from 509 to 562, and 13.7 pet cent in commerce from 700 to 796. Music enrolments have fallen from 83 to 79. and forestry from 57 to 56. The enrolments in the engineering and fine arts faculties are expected to be close to last year’s: engineering 830, and fine arts 140. First-year enrolmen’s are 6 per cent higher this year than last. 1803 compared with 1793. First-year enrolments, at 1803, are 6 per cent higher than last year’s 1793.
