Electrical safetv

Sir, — I join John Dodgshun in congratulating your paper on the publication of the articles on electrical safety which appeared in “The Press.” I am sure that a lot more emphasis should be given to education in electrical safety. Careless use of electricity mainly through ignorance, continues to take a heavy toll in accidents and fatalities. In the three years up to December 1975 one electrical accident every three days was serious enough to be reported. In this period 67 people were killed, nine being young children. Many accidents are caused by deteriorated apparatus and overhead lines which have become dangerous. If education can make people more conscious of these dangers, lives would be saved. Might I suggest more articles on electrical safety and that some thought be given to publishing in your paper the reports of electrical accidents released by the N.Z.E.D. — Yours, etc..
