Dead men named

PA Timaru The Timaru police have named the two Australian climbers who were killed in a 300 m fall from the Footstool in the Mount Cook region of the Southern Alps yesterday. They were Herbert Patrick Nicholls, aged 27, of Curraghmore Avenue, Burnie, Tasmania. lan McKinnon, of Donald. Victoria.

The Footstool (2765 m is a well-known peak running down from the north of Mount Sefton, and can be seen in graphic outline from the Hermitage.

The two men were within 40m of the summit of the Footstool at 6.45 a.m., when they fell. The bodies fell into a snow basin.
