Mares have useful form
By
G. K. Yule
Three talented mares —Motu Princess. Swift Princess, and Majestic Pride—are expected to prove moi-e than a match for their male rivals in the Highfieldj Handicap at Washdyke tomorrow. All three have much! worthwhile form fairly close up in their records and they look capable of a merry 2600 m on this fast circuit Motu Princess ended a winning sequence of three last Saturday when she had to bow to the speedy Ganya at the end of a fast 2600 m at Addington Raceway, Motu Princess has drawn No. 1 and looks capable of leading from end to end. Last season’s New Zealand Oaks winner, Swift Princess, has had little luck in her latest racing. She drew the second line and received an interrupted passage in her race last Saturday, so there was merit in her third to Ganya. Majestic Pride looks ready to stage a come-back to the fine form she showed earlier in her career. She failed to
secure a run at her most recent start on February 11 and finished under a hold. iShe will need to show very little improvement on that 1 effort to be one of the hardiest to beat.
Jascoe is another mare entitled to consideration, while there will also be support for the geldings, American Chief, Charteris Play and Sail Again, all of which look in great order at present. Spangles Gold, a runaway winner on the course last month, and Lordable appear to dominate the second leg, ' the Washdyke Handicap, a t race in which Tommy and . Wibahe Dream must be considered.
