Senior vet. at Ministry quits
Mr J. L Baker, w ho has been senior veterinary officer with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in Christchurch tor about five years, has resigned. He will complete his duties with the Ministry at the end of the week. Br Baker said that he was hoping to return to livestock development and advisorywork in developing countries. Before taking up his post in Christchurch Mr Baker worked with the Fiji Ministry of Agriculture for 12 years. Born in Christchurch. Mr Baker, who is 50. was educated at Christ's College and the Veterinary School at the University of Sydney where he completed his bachelor of veterinary science in 1948. He was in private practice in Southland for three years before spending a year in the United Kingdom and two: years in Ethiopia with the Food and Agriculture Organisation on rinderpest control.
He returned to Southland for another four years before going to Fiji in 1959
