New union secretary

A successor to the former Cooks and Stewards’ Union secretary (Mr Toby Hill) was appointed at a special executive meeting of the union in Wellington yesterday.

However, the union's national president (Mr J. Savage) said yesterday that his name would not be released until early next week; by then all the applicants for the post would have been informed of the union’s decision. Mr Savage said the union had received “quite a number” of applications for the job from both within and without the union.
