Industrial relations trust fund

The Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) has announced the establishment of the New Zealand Industrial Relations Trust Fund. The fund is being established with an annual Government grant of $20,000 to be boosted initially by contributions from companies and the trade union movement. Scholarships funded by the trust will be awarded in the name of the Duke of Edinburgh and called Prince Philip scholarships. The trust will fund overseas scholarships in industrial relations, grant financial support for staff train-

ing within unions and encourage unions to set up their own training facilities, give financial backing to research and courses in industrial relations, and promote education in industrial relations at school level.

The president of the Employers’ Federation, Mr D. G. R. Sutcliffe, welcomed the establishment of the fund.

Until now efforts to educate people in industrial relations had been fragmented. he said, and he expected the fund would lead to a rationalisation and coordination of those efforts.
