Trade unions
Sir, -- So Labour youth would have our country steeped in nationalisation. Perhaps they are ignorant of what happened in the United Kingdom. Or are they seeking the trade union “perks” which result in disaster? Let them stand up and tell us which nationalised industry pays a profit to our nation. Transportation? What a perfect example of a road to ruin. The cooks and stewards. these so-called champions of the poor, are out only to feather their own nests, regardless of the silent sufferers, as in the United Kingdom. Instead of further nationalisation, let the Government make a public experiment. Make a trade union take over a small business. Let the unionists run it on the current work-shy, absenteeist formula. Then let them show the nation how much “profit” they made over a given period — and no cooking the books. — Yours, etc.,
