We recently interviewed the famous Yoai Maraschino Cheri. who is visiting Christchurch to promote his philosophy of Transcendental Agitation.
■‘Transcendental Agitation.” the Maraschino told us,” is a means whereby the restless spirit of Man can express that restlessness in the form of transcendentally restless behaviour. Unlike certain rival Eastern philosophies. which I could hit from here with this ashtrav. Transcendental Agi-
tation does not seek tc
promote a mood of calm and restful contemplation, but instead to avoid the
onset of any potentially dangerous contemplation by a programme of ceaseless and pointless activity."
We asked the Maraschino why he regarded contemplation as ‘poten-
tially dangerous." ■Contemplating the inner nature of your being." he replied, “is all very well if sou have an inner being worth looking at. But most people's inner being is like that corner of the back yard where you store all the rubbish before it goes to the dump, and restful contemplation of it can induce a mood of over-
whelming lethargy and despair.” We asked the Maraschino what forms of activity were practised by
Transcendental Agitators. "Jumping up and down and shouting at the top
of your voice are the two principal Exercises,” he replied. “However they must be done in a particular way which is taught by my instructors for a modest, or at any rate moderate, or at any rate quite reasonable fee.” We left the Maraschino profoundly impressed by his spirituality and were appalled to learn a few days later that he had been deported for being a foreign Agitator..
