Parents call in W.E.A.
Lack of space, publicity, i money and organising time I has forced the Christchurch [Parent's Centre tq seek help s from the Workers' Educational Association. As a 12-month trial the W.E.A. will take over the administration of the Parent’s Centre, and provide [space for classes.
i The director of the W.E.A.j (Mr Brian Pauling) said that; 'this was the first time his> i association had entered into jsuch an arrangement, but ;greater co-operation between! ' voluntary organisations I would probably be inevitable -in the face of rising costs. Mrs Caroline Oliver, the' vice-president of the Parent's Centre, said the voluntary committee of young mothers had been worked hard, and in order to allow! 1 the centre to both expand l and maintain its standards} I the full-time staff of the ■W.E.A. was needed. Parenthood classes were, getting biggers, even without publicity, she said, as more fathers attended the delivery; ■of their children. Two years'; ago only about a half of the' husbands accompanied their; i wives to the centre; today! !nearly all did.
