N.Z. doctors honoured

Two New Zealand doctors have been awarded Harkness Fellowships, which wii enable them to stuy and travel in the United States for up to 21 months. One award has been made to Dr K. P. McNatty, of the Wallaceville Animal Research Centre, Upper Hutt, and the other to Dr B. D. Wilkinson, of the Treasury. Five Harkness Fellowships are awarded to the Australiasian area each '.ear, as part of an international programme financed by an American philanthropic foundation, the Commonwealth Fund. The fellowships are intended to give outstanding young mena nd women the opportunity to further and widen their professional education.

Dr Wilkinson is personal assistant to the Secretary of the Treasury. He holds a B.Sc (Hons) in chemistry and mathematics, and an M.Com in economics, and has just completed a PhD in economics. all at Canterbury University.

sional field is monetary policy. He has been a provincial and South Island soccer representative, and recently played in the Central League division one for Hutt City.

Dr Wilkinson and his wife will travel to the United States in September, and he will hold his fellowship at Harvard. Dr McNatty is an animal physiologist engated in research on reproduction in domestic animals, and in collaboration with medical research workers is linking his work to such human social questions as fertility control. He has an M.Sc in chemistry from Victoria University, and a PhD in reproductive physiology from the University of Edinburgh. He led a mountaineering expedition to explore and map the Cordillera Vilcambaba region of southern Peru, in 1968.

Dr McNatty and his family will travel to the United States in August, where he will take up his fellowship for post-docto-ral studies at the Harvard Medical School.
