Record price at Adelaide

By

J. J. BOYLE

A Victorian owner last week paid $52,000 at the South Australian yearling sales for a colt by Commoner from the New Zealand-bred Le Filou mare, High Desire. This is a South Australian record for a yearling a first-season sire. ’ It was not surprising that the youngster should sell so well. He is a half-brother to the big winner, Desirable, and impressed a group of New Zealanders to which I belonged on a visit to Lindsay Park at Angaston, South Australia, last spring. Commoner, sire of the

record-priced colt, was bought in the United States for Lindsay Park. He is a winning son of Buckpasser (by Tom Fool) and Bold Ruler’s sister Highness. High Desire, dam of the record-priced colt, won 10 races from six furlongs to a mile and five furlongs. Being by Le Filou from Flying Florence (by Contact), High Desire is a sister of Suttle, winner of eight races including the A.R.C. Nathans Memorial and Hawke’s Bay Cup. Withou Fear, the sire of Desirable, and the glamour sire at Lindsay Park, had eight colts and three fillies through the ring at Adelaide for an aggregate of $261,000, an average of $27,727.
