BALMERINO PLEASES TRAINER
i Special correspondent Cambridge Balmerino thoroughly pleased his trainer, B. Smith, with the I way he handled his final training at Cambridge yesterday as he prepared for a return to racing in the Lion Brown Sprint at le Rapa on Wednesday Working on fast footing on the plough. Balmerino cut out 1000 m in 59.35ec. He galloped the first 400 m effortlessly in 24.45ec and strode afiead of Lord Aly. which joined him oxer the last 600 m in 35.4 sec. Balmerino was running on well. Smith said after the gallop. “He is very well and was under no pressure. It was just a nice work out and now I hope that when the pressure of a race comes on he wil) race in his best style.” Jan's Beau, which was transferred recently from Whangarei to the stable of Joe Brom by clocked the fastest round of the plough (just o'er 1500 mi in the hands of his race day io< kex. Garry Edge. He returned Imin 36sec, the last 1000 m in Imin 1.2 sec and 600 m in 37>e< . lan’s Beau has improved with his race last Saturday his first since a slight setback.
