Sir, — Your headline “Rowdy scene ends peace conference” as the main, attention-drawing report of the Peace Action Conference was disappointingly misleading. Main events of the conference were an address by Sir Mark Oliphant, exGovernor of South Australia, Mr Paul McCloskey, of the United States in friendly conversation with Soviet Union Peace Council delegates, strong representation of leading New Zealand and Australian trade unionists, the presence of the Mayor of atom-bombed Nagasaki and reports on the $4 billion, 16,000-ton United States atomic submarine, Trident, capable of destroying 1000 cities in one go. The discussion groups’ main
concern was not reduction of war toys but non-align-ment for New Zealand and enthusiastic endorsement of a nuclear-free South Pacific. The Prime Minister’s letter endorsing United States’ pol-
