Talks on police pay ‘stalled’
PA Wellington Talks between the police and the Government on a police pay rise claim stalled last night after six weeks of negotiations. Police Association and Police Officers’ Guild representatives met the Minister of State Services (Mr Gordon) for talks that both sides had hoped would result in a tentative pay agreement. But the national secretary of the Police Association (Mr R. Moodie) said later that the Minister had presented a new offer on a different basis. He said the offer was not acceptable to the association.
As far as the association was concerned last night’s meeting followed on from a meeting with the Cabinet Committee on State Services on Thursday evening. Mr Moodie said that that meeting had agreed on a formula to be applied in settling the claim. night the association had put to Mr Gordon its view of the minimum possible to settle the claim under the agreed formula. But Mr Gordon had replied with an unacceptable offer based on a different formula.
