THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED for appointment to the following: JOHN CURTIN SCHOOL OF MEDICAL RESEARCH RESEARCH FELLOW/ SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW: DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY (2 posts) The Department carries out research in the areas of virology, immunology and the immune response to infectious diseases. RESEARCH SCHOOL OF PACIFIC STUDIES SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW: STRATEGIC AND DEFENCE STUDIES CENTRE The Minister for, Defence has endowed a Senior Research Fellowship in the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre for two years tenable from early 1977. The Centre would be interested in appointing a person whose interests lie in one or more of the following areas: strategic theory; the global strategic balance; regional security problems in the Indian and Pacific Ocean areas; Australian defence policy; and defence resource allocation. The post will be filled in accordance with normal procedures. Each applicant should outline his intended research pro ject. RESEARCH SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES POST IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY This post may be filled at the level of Senior Fellow, Fellow. Senior Research Fellow or Research Fellow. Candidates should already have shown their aptitude for and interest in research, as evidenced (at least in the case of tenured posts) in publications. Preference will be given to candidates whose area of interest lies in the relationships between philosophy and the social sciences, as a whole or individually. The “social sciences” for these purposes are taken to include economics, politics, sociology, anthropology, social psychology, law, history and education. SALARIES: Salary on appointment to these posts will be in accordance with qualifications and experience within the ranges: Senior Fellow $21,536-$25,202 p.a.; Fellow 515,897-$21,506 p.a.; Senior Research Fellow: $19,170-$22,983 p.a.; Research Fellow: $13,552-$17.876 p.a.; Australian currency. Current exchange rates are SAI equals UK 61P; SUSI.OI. OTHER CONDITIONS: Tenure: Senior Fellow and Fellow for five years in the first instance with possible extension to retiring age; Senior Research Fellow and Research Fellow usually for three years in the first instance with possibility of re-appointment to five year.
