Weak Australian market
Trading activity was subdued, and few leaders were able to show any progress on Australian sharemarkets yesterday.
The O.P.E.C. oil-price rise was not expected to bring any immediate benefits to indigenous oil producers. B.H.P. fell 26c to 754 c in Melbourne.
Hooker’s precipitous fall highlighted trading on the industrial boards. The stock fell 6c to 55c in turnover of 250,000 units. Sims stock units were traded in a special sale of 67,900 at 112 c, 2c above the market price. I The Wales was down, but i the National rose another 5c at 270 c.
Herald WT was up 7c to 195 c, but C.S.R., Waltons, [Comalco, and Tooth were Mown. Australian Guarantee eased 5c to 140 c. Peko-Wallsend lost 5c at 420 c, but E.Z. Industrie's firmed 5c at 285 c. Pancontinental lost 40c to 850 c, and Central Norseman lost another 5c at 235 c. Queensland Mines, Robe
