PA Auckland The Auckland Junior tennis championships yesterday were highlighted by several close battles among mostly run of the mill play. In the boys* singles the games between B. Hibbert (Canterbury) and M. Turner (Southland), and M. Ellev (Wellington) and M. Lewis (Auckland) were very close indeed. Hibbert lost the first game to Turner before fighting back to take the match 4-6. 6-3. 6-2. Eiley and Lewis were extremely well matched with onlv Elley’s slightly stronger physique deciding the result Among the girls the only game with much spirit among the most erratic matches was that between A. Rolleston (Western Bay of Plenty) and D. Ord (Levin).

Rolleston finall- took control and won 6-4, 6-3, after nearly two hours of play. The championship* will continue today.
