Timber mill fatality
A man was killed when a log fell on him at the timber yard at Chaneys ‘Corner, about 10.20 a.m. yesterday. He was Douglas Raymond Pascoe, aged 54, married, of Ashley Street, Rangiora.
Mr Pascoe was working at the yard when a large log rolled off a stack and crushed him, according to the police. Other men working in the area managed to get out of the path of the log. St John ambulancemen
and a doctor were on the scene within minutes, and Mr Pascoe was rushed to Christchurch Hospital, but was found to be dead on arrival.
