Lester fourth

Peter Lester, the Canterbury and New Zealand O.K. dinghy yachting champion, finished fourth over-all in the seven-race Auckland title series.

It was primarily Lester’s consistency which enabled him to trail only Barry Thom Graeme Woodroffe and Tom Dodson on the points table. Thom, who has previously gained most success in the Laser class, emerged as a formidable contender for the world championship in Auckland early next year when he returned a record of four wins, a second, a third and a sixth.

Woodroffe and Lester have both been runners-up in world company in the past, and should also feature prominently. However, the first hint of the expected strength of the overseas opposition was given when the 19-year-old Swedish representative, Mikael Delfs, won the final heat of the Auckland championship. Delfs, like Lester, began his preparation for the world event in Auckland two months ago.
