Canterbury teams on top

Canterbury teams scooped the pool at marching events around the South Island during the week-end. At Nelson on Saturday and at Blenheim on Sunday the Blue Star Taxis midget team won awards for champion team, display, fall in and inspection, uniform, and the march past, while the leader: award on both days went to Vanetta Johnston, of Canterbury Motors. i Th re was an upset in the junior grade when the champion team, Blue Star Taxis, was beaten by its rivals. Skellerup Militaires, on Saturday. However the champions retained their form and won on Sunday at Blenheim. The leader title on Saturday went to Alyson Costa of Skellerup Militaires and on Sunday it was won bv Karen Linton of Blue Star Taxis. The senior section on both [days was won by Skellerup Militaires which collected all !awards except for the leader ’and fall in and insnection

trophies on Saturday, which went to Patricia Anderson and her team. Acme Pioneers. The uniform title on Sunday was also won by Acme Pioneers.

While these teams were in the north, other local teams were at Methven on Sunday. Canterbury’s McVicar Cadets and Kowhai -tied in the midget grade for second place behind Waitaki Kilties of Oamaru. Because of leg injuries both these teams were led by new leaders for the day. The junior grade was won by Steelite Kilties, who collected all awards except for the leader award which went to Murdoch Motors of Timaru. Top senior placings went to Timaru teams: Southern Rangers was placed first ahead of Dunblane.

These were the last competitions until after the Christmas break when all teams will be preparing for the island and national events next vear.
