More N.Z. beef for America

NZPA Washington New Zealand's share of beef exports to the United States next year will total 2683. M pounds according to informed sources in Washington. This is 8.5 M pounds more than the amount New Zealand was permitted to land this year. The sources who revealed the New Zealand figure said that negotiators from the United States Departments of State and Agriculture and the 13 nations exporting beef and veal to the United States had almost reached final agreement on shares for 1*77. All that remains now is for representatives of the various countries in Washington to advise

their home governments of the precise details for approval. Under a renewed system of voluntary restraints, exporting nations will limit exports to the United States next year to 1172 M pounds, about 40M pounds more than in 1976. New Zealand’s senior trade representative in Washington, Mr Don Walker, said that he could not confirm the New Zeland figure. But he said he expected to receive formal notification of the United States’ offer later for transmission to Wellington. The Cabinet, he said, could be expected to discuss the. offer next Monday.
