Notable DC8 sold
PA Auckland Air New Zealand’s most notable DCS aircraft, ZK NZA, will soon be on its way back to the United States under new colours.
The jet, which apart from being the first of its type to go into service with the airline, achieved a number of “firsts,” has covered more than 20M miles and made almost 16,000 landings in 11 years flying. It is now being used for crew training before its delivery to its new owner, Evergreen International Airlines, an Arizona charterflight operator. The DCB was the first jet to land at Auckland Airport and was also the first commercial passenger jet to fly non-stop from California to New Zealand. It landed at the airport on July 20,1965, after covering the 6510 miles in 13hr 32min.
With the disposal of its original DCS, Air New Zealand will be left with only three of its fleet of six.
