Guilty plea to incest charges
A 23-year-old man pleaded guilty to two charges of committing incest with two of his sisters when he appeared before Mr B. A. Palmer, S.M., yesterday in the Magistrate’s Court. The man, a driver, was cohvicted on both charges and remanded in custody to December 17 for a psychiatric examination, probation report and sentence. The Magistrate ordered interim suppression of name for both the defendant and the two complainants. The Court was told that on October 15 one of the complainants was at her home when the defendant visited her. He asked for a cup of tea and sent her small son down the road to the shop. He then picked up his sister, took her to the bedroom and had had sexual intercourse with her, although she had tried to resist him.
The woman told her husband that night and a complaint was made to the police. Her sister, also married, then made a similar complaint. This offence against the sister occurred earlier in the ye£r, on May 27. When interviewed by the police, the defendant frankly admitted the offences.
