Sir Keith laughs off ‘blue’ in toast
PA Wellington The Minister of State (Sir Keith Holyoake) made an undiplomatic mistake r.t a reception in Wellington on Monday evening. Sir Keith, while proposing the toast to the King of Thailand — whose birthday the reeention was celebrating — called for a drink to the health of the Head of State of another country, South Korea. After a r'lort and light address, which had the guests laughing. Sir Keith began his toast to “The President and people ...” He then offered the toast: “The President . . . Park Chung Hee.” A few moments later, Sir Keith returned to the platform to correct his mistake. He made light of the error, prefacing his new toast with the comment: “It seems we have an excuse for another toast: Ladies and gentlemen ~ . . the king.”
