H. Pollard ahead in half-year

PA Auckland, Henderson and Pollard, Ltd, increased unaudited group net profit by 16.3 per cent in the half-year to October 31. The estimated profit rose $61,000 to $435,000, after sales revenue; rose SI.6M or 25 per cent toi SBM. Allowing for a slow recov-i ery from the decline in the construction industry, and the stifling effects of the price freeze, the directors thought it unlikely that the profit for the second half of the year would be as high as last year. They hoped that the profit for the full year would be in line with last year’s $1,050,770. In the first half of the last financial year, activity was I;

* at a low level, but it improved in the second half. As announced, an issue ol 10 per cent specified preference shares was planned foi early next year. A steady ordinary interim ■ dividend of 4 per cent (4c a .share) is payable from realised capital profits. Astral bid A formal take-over bid has been made for Astral Finance, Ltd, of New Plymouth, by Broadlands Dominion Group, Ltd. The offer is subject to approval under the Commerce Act, and if successful will involve the issue of 178,200 ordinary Broadlands shares.
